Pents - Mrs Browns Boys is a strange one. My mum, before she was in care absolutely loved it and I couldn't understand why, I just don't find it funny at all, but a woman in her 70's-80's at the time found it hilarious!
Marty - Surely Batman and Robin tickled your funny bone? Although must confess I caught a couple of episodes of One Foot in the Grave over Xmas and had forgotten how funny they were, real laugh out lour stuff at times. Then I saw One Foot in the Algarve, which was a Christmas special and it wasn't as good as the episodes I'd seen.
Eric and Ernie are still my favourite though, although I did also like The Two Ronnies. Eddie Braben the writer though was the third genius in the double act, fabulous writing.

I must be one of the very few who never rated any of the OFAH Xmas specials . None of them was a patch on the normal episodes .I watched the 1967 til death us do part Xmas special with Jimmy tarbuck and Kenny lynch recently on YouTube that was funny but obviously couldn't be made in todays PC environment.

Like Oliver Hardy, Ernie wasn't a conventional straight man, like Lou Costello or Mike Winters, say. He was often very funny in his own right. If you watch the shows, he gets a much higher percentage of the laughs than you'd think. But of course, his genius was that he knew his main job was to make Eric look as hilarious. Which he did to perfection.

I did wonder why I stopped attempting suicide when watching Mrs Brown's Boys on Xmas day. Was forced to watch by family. What the fuck did I just watch was my first reaction.
Apparently it got 2millions viewers and yet the guy who writes and stars in it says it brings tears to his eyes knowing its a staple of British Christmases. Like fuck is it lol. Its a pile of you know what.
OFAH got 26million for the one when they struck it rich. At that time in life, I reckon that was the amount of TVs in UK.
Now that was a staple of the Xmas experience, waiting for an OFAH special.

Scrooge is, by a distance, the best Christmas film.

Scrooge the musical with Albert finney is absolutely superb.
Blame my dad for this as not even christmassy, but always watch seven brides for seven brothers over Xmas as well.

I seem to recall one christmas day in the 80s when OFAH went head to head against Minder on the orient express.
We watched OFAH and recorded Minder i think on the old Betamax.

Oliver is good especially David Lean's version but for Christmas, Scrooge with Alistair Sim is better.
